Planning Meets ERP

Zero.Point.Systems GmbH, which was established in 2002 in Götzis, Austria, specializes in the development and manufacture of innovative zero point clamping systems and high-end solutions in the areas of workholding, assembly and locking.

A team of 23 employees provides high quality in all areas of the company – including production. Zero.Point.Systems relies on CNC technology from DMG MORI. Nine models are currently being used for turning and milling. Following years of rapid growth, the company is now pushing ahead with digitization in order to manage planning and manufacturing processes transparently. DMG MORI subsidiary ISTOS GmbH provides support in the form of the PRODUCTION PLANNING & CONTROL advanced planning and scheduling system.

„Our aim is to be able to give specific delivery dates with the APplus ERP system in conjunction with PRODUCTION PLANNING & CONTROL from ISTOS.“

“Our objective is to increase the flexibility and productivity of our customers with zero point clamping systems from our extensive standard range, but also with individual customized solutions,” emphasizes Maximilian Stark, the son of the founder who has been running Zero.Point.Systems since 2014. For example, the zero-point tool change system provides optimal solutions for SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) by increasing machine productivity, lowering labor costs and reducing stock levels. “Other advantages are additional flexibility, improved process support and the possibility of reacting faster to changing customer requirements.” The fact that the business philosophy has been successful is proven by the considerable growth of the company over the past few years. “In 2017 we doubled both our workforce and the number of machines that we operate.”

Flexible manufacturing with PRODUCTION PLANNING & CONTROL

With this growth, the challenge of planning processes efficiently increased, remembers Maximilian Stark: “It was clear to us that we would have to digitize our processes.” Transparent planning is the be-all and end-all for internal organization as well as for the company’s customers. DMG MORI had an obvious and flexible solution in its product range in the form of PRODUCTION PLANNING & CONTROL from ISTOS. “It is easy to use and orders can be planned both manually and automatically,” explains Maximilian Stark. PRODUCTION PLANNING & CONTROL consists of three coordinated applications – PLANNING BOARD, PRODUCTION FEEDBACK and PRODUCTION COCKPIT. As a web-based solution from the cloud, they combine to make it easy to start optimizing PRODUCTION PLANNING and control.

Standard interface for the best of both worlds

In order to overcome the hurdle of consistency in digitization, ISTOS GmbH cooperates with leading ERP system providers. Zero.Point. Systems has certainly also benefited from this. “We use the APplus ERP system from Asseco Solutions,” says Maximilian Stark. “Using a bi-directional standard interface to this system, PRODUCTION PLANNING & CONTROL provides problem-free exchange of all production-related information.” Thanks to the cooperation between ISTOS and Asseco Solutions, Zero.Point.Systems can optimally combine the advantages of both systems. “Additionally, the standard interface enabled more cost-effective implementation than the development of a customized solution.”

Reliable delivery thanks to consistent digitization

Customers benefit from the added value of this digitization in the form of improved delivery reliability. According to Maximilian Stark: “PRODUCTION PLANNING & CONTROL and APplus allow predictive simulation of our PRODUCTION PLANNING so that we can provide delivery dates that are even more accurate.”

17 different sets of master data and transaction data, such as work plans, materials, production orders, parts lists and personnel, are exchanged bi-directionally between PRODUCTION PLANNING & CONTROL and the ERP systems.
